FILMFESTIVAL
Experimental Competition
6. – 14. July 2013
Portugal
At twenty-one years, Curtas Vila do Conde is a festival of resistance: after a year zero in supporting the Portuguese cinema and a widespread economic and social crisis, the Festival returns from an anniversary edition (in 2012, it was our twenty years), to further celebrate the contemporary cinema.
In 2013, this resistance is also proposed in a special programme which seeks to give visibility to filmmakers and artists who work on film stock. This programme follows the exhibition "Film", with an In Focus retrospective of the filmmaker Bill Morrison. Both promote an important dimension of experimental cinema and the memory of cinema. In a time of increasing digitization of the filmmaking process, the recovery of the film is an archaeological work that festivals should promote. In addition to this special program, competitions continue to provide the most diverse sessions of the festival, demonstrating the current state of the world. The international competition will show 34 films from 21 different countries, while the Portuguese competition show 17 Portuguese short films. But the experimental, Curtinhas (films for children), and Take One! (film school) competitions will be excellent opportunity to highlight the best short films of last year.
Workers leaving the factory has received a portuguese title named OPERÁRIOS SAINDO DA FÁBRICA and will be shown in the Experimental Program 1, together with:
ARBOR, Janie Geiser, USA 2012
I AM HERE, Karsten Krause, Francesca Bertin, GER 2012
ROOMS, Johannes Hammel, Austria 2013
THE SEARCH FOR INSPIRATION GONE, Ashley M. Briggs, UK 2012
ZABRISKIE POINT (REDACTED), Stephen Connolly, UK/USA 2013
I will be present at the screenings.
